Feeling Broken?

Image
In case you didn't realize it, pay attention to it or have been completely focused on one aspect of you, I want you to always remember that you are whole as is. And what I mean by that is;  You have a mind with thoughts  You have a physical body You have emotions You have a soul  All four aspects of your being create the whole you. You can name them anything you like or add parts but my point is that they all work together and create the complex multidimensional human being that is you. In order to have ease and flow in your life you will have to give attention to each aspect. Whatever that means for you. Dig as deep as you can to see what needs to be attended to.  I will give myself as an example. About 5 or 6 years after I gave birth to my first child, I came to realize that I was completely burnt out and I had stopped paying attention to everything about myself except my physical body. After a lot of researching, deep diving and acceptance, I real

Energy healing (Reiki or Chakra Balancing)

The who, what, where, when, how and most importantly why ? In physics, energy is the quantitative property that must be transferred to an object in order to perform work on, or to heat, the object. Energy is a conserved quantity; the law of conservation of energy states that energy can be converted in form, but not created or destroyed. (Wikipedia) Ummm what??? Basically, from the days of Albert Einstein to today's mainstream Deepak Chopra, we know that everything is made up of 'energy'. A sort of invisible force that makes things form, move, shift and morph. Without making it sound too woo-woo or esoteric, think of it like this.  Just like a low WiFi signal will slow down your internet connection causing it to eventually shut down or  disconnect all together, your  mind and body can become weakened by the energy bodies, in and around it , being low on energy thus causing a weakened connection. Bear with me for a brief overview: As humans, we have

Diet Culture

Image
Let’s get into it. So where do you fall on the scale of buying into diet culture? Maybe you don’t even realize you’re in it? Here’s a definition from Christy Harrison, a leader in the anti-diet culture movement. Diet culture is a system of beliefs that: Worships thinness and equates it to health and moral virtue, which means you can spend your whole life thinking you’re irreparably broken just because you don’t look like the impossibly thin “ideal.” Promotes weight loss as a means of attaining higher status, which means you feel compelled to spend a massive amount of time, energy, and money trying to shrink your body, even though the research is very clear that almost  no one  can sustain intentional weight loss for more than a few years. Demonizes certain ways of eating while elevating others, which means you’re forced to be hyper-vigilant about your eating, ashamed of making certain food choices, and distracted from your pleasure, your purpose, and your power. Kevin Hart and Ayurveda

Image
I just finished reading The Decision by Kevin Hart - what a great book! His main focus is on what he calls ‘mental toughness’ and this mental toughness is a lot of what ayurveda is about. My teacher once told me that 80% of diseases start in the brain. She meant stress. According to Ayurveda, anything that leaves you feeling at unease for long periods of time will accumulate in your system, whether it be in your mental, emotional or physical system and will create an issue. Unprocessed energy ( and by that I mean any feelings, thoughts or emotions that have not been fully felt and/or dealt with) will remain repressed in your systems and cause weakness and disease in the system that is being affected. Over time, if these issues are not dealt with, the systems overload and chronic issues arise. Genetics and environmental factors also play a role in creating disease however right now, we’re talking about something you can learn to manage - stress. For me, stress really boils down to

What’s in a name?

Image
People always ask me where did I get the name    ‘Skylit’ from? In Hinduism when a baby is born, the date and exact time of their birth is plugged into an astrological reading (based on the  nakshatra  or lunar mansion) to determine a specific vibrational name with specific sounds that will guide this life’s path. It was determined by the Pandit (a Hindu priest), that my chosen name was to be Chandavati. Chandavati (Chandra 'moon' + vati 'light') literallymeans ‘lit by the moon’. Chandavati also means "of a princess" in Sanskrit.  In keeping with this, a play on the the key words Sky,    Light and Night, the screen name Skylitnite was born, later shortened to Skylit.  As the moon lights up the sky at night, it is my mission to provide a glimmer of light in what seems like a darkening world.  🙏🏽 W.R.
